The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering offers a highquality graduate program both at the Master and Ph.D. level. This program emphasizes fundamental principles that prepare students for leadership roles in a challenging and rapidly changing technological world. Research and innovation are encouraged in an environment that fosters cooperation among faculty, students, industry and research organizations. The faculty in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is comprised of experienced and distinguished academicians with expertise in a wide range of research fields pertinent to Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.

The objective of the Ph.D. program is to train young scientists with up-to-date knowledge and techniques in the fast growing (and of particular importance for the society) field of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. The students are specialized in one of the research areas of the program with the aim to create proper conditions for a successful professional career in the public or private sector, in industry or in research organizations.

Applications should include the following:

  • Application through the Online Application System of the University
  • The names and addresses of at least two (2) referees (University Professors) familiar with the candidate and his/her academic performance. Some departments require three reference letters, so before submitting your application, please read the Postgraduate Prospectus and any relevant departmental prospectus to ascertain the required number of reference letters. The Department may request additional confidential information from the referees. You may also consult the department website.
  • Copies of university degrees or a statement of expected graduation in the month preceding enrolment in the postgraduate programme.
  • Transcripts as appropriate.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • A short statement (maximum two pages) of the student’s research goals and interests.
  • A preliminary research proposal for a PhD place (if this is stated in the departments regulations).


Criteria for assessment of applicants

The criteria for assessment of postgraduate candidates are the following:

  • Academic background in the appropriate discipline and grades in other related degrees.
  • Letters of recommendation.
  • Personal interview at the discretion of each department.
  • Written examination at the discretion of each department.
  • Submission of a preliminary research proposal for a student place in a Phd programme (if this is stated in the departments’ regulations)
  • Other criteria set by each department.

English Language Knowledge

To be considered for postgraduate studies, the applicant is required to have certification for “Very Good Knowledge” of English at level B2-C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Acceptable certificates that prove Very Good Knowledge of English are listed on the Graduate School website and on the table of Matching results of international examinations with the CEFR. The University of Cyprus Language Centre Certificate for the knowledge of English language (level B2+) is also accepted.


Applicants who have acquired their University degrees from English-taught Schools are not required to provide proof of English language proficiency.
